Many countries around the world are working towards zero waste. Zero Waste International Alliance defines the concept of zero waste as “the conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health”.
Zero waste is a goal and a vision to guide people in modifying their lifestyles and practices to foster sustainable life cycles where all discarded materials are designed to become resources for others to use. The zero waste perspective protects the environment and natural resources, provides benefits to communities and supports a strong local economy. It is an ambitious goal. However, individuals have an essential role in preserving natural resources and reducing waste-associated carbon emissions by minimising their waste footprint.
In accordance with the philosophy of zero waste, in our projects, we contribute to awareness-raising in different segments of the society. We adopt inclusive and participatory approaches, and disseminate the knowledge and information through wide-scale events and campaigns. Furthermore, we embrace the zero waste approach in all our actions.
