Introduction

The environment is no longer a local or regional problem. Pollution of our land, oceans and skies affects us all and respects no national boundaries. As a result, A number of countries and international organisations have adopted and prioritised policies aimed at protecting the environment and, in particular, averting climate change, which has become an increasingly significant issue in today’s world.

In the area of international development, environmental issues are particularly crucial in the fields of health and agriculture. Protecting ecosystems paves the way for better nutritional and bodily health and the extent to which they are safeguarded serves as a measure of the importance attached to the environment at local, national and international levels.

We put environmental protection at the core of everything we do, making sure that the stakeholders with whom we work have the information, expertise, skills and support they need to address issues of climate change, environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and renewable energy. Similarly, we apply these principles to our own projects, using environmentally friendly methods and tools to deliver environmentally responsible and sustainable outcomes.

““The IklimIn Project created a forum of cooperation and continuous dialogue among all governmental and non-governmental institutions that work in the fight against climate change in Turkey, thereby bringing a new approach to empowering the climate governance. In this regard, the Project contributed to the technical/scientific capacity development and awareness raising among all the relevant stakeholders. The Project collectively covers more than 30 provinces in Turkey through its 3 comprehensive components (training, communication, and grant management). Covering almost one third of Turkey, the Project supports and ignites numerous activities at the local level to fight against climate change. Interaction of all these actions at the local level supported the development a novel strategy in Turkey and initiated “climate change training campaign”

A Mission Proven and Thoroughly Accomplished

Exploring the benefits of increased energy efficiency for Turkish businesses

Conscious of the International Energy Agency’s statement that “energy efficiency is the world’s most important fuel”, we worked with Turkey’s Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) to explore ways in which investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy could pave the way for large energy savings, reduced levels of pollution and increases in energy efficiency that could lead to greater competitiveness for Turkish business in the global market. In a project sponsored by the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office we established a special Task Force to conduct a needs analysis and a feasibility study for the establishment of an “Environment and Efficiency Centre” within the TOBB. Our report concluded that such a centre would be feasible and would work in cooperation with the TOBB University of Economics and Technology.
