“Training for the Institutional Capacity Building on Climate Change Adaptation” (İklimiDUY) project’s closing event was held in a hybrid format on September 23, 2021, with more than 200 participants, including public institution representatives, local governments and the private sector. The detailed outputs of the project were shared with the participants by valuable panellists.
The project was carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, financed by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey, aimed to enhance the capacity of Climate Change and Air Management Coordination Board (CCAMCB) member institutions’ staff and Municipal Staff on climate change adaptation in line with the EU Adaptation Strategy.
The closing event started with the opening speech of the Director of IPA Programme at the Directorate General of EU and Foreign Affairs under the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Dr. İsmail Raci Bayer.
His speech was followed by a speech by Deputy General Director of the Directorate General of Environmental Management under the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Sebahattin Dökmeci. After the Project Team Leader Prof. Dr. Gülen Güllü shared the results of the project, project’s instructors Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Tanık, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Coşkun Hepcan, Prof. Dr. İlkay Dellal, Prof. Dr. İhsan Çiçek, Prof. Dr. Didem Evci Kiraz and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Somuncu delivered a panel presentation on “Climate Change Adaptation Policies and Turkish Practices”.
The afternoon session started with a presentation by Güven İslamoğlu, titled “Climate Change from the Nature’s Perspective” and was finalized with a panel presentation on “Climate Change Adaptation Efforts of Local Governments”, with the participation of Eskişehir, İzmir, Gaziantep and Kocaeli Municipalities.
